Bozeman-Based Advisor Brings Deep Montana Roots and Business-Owner Experience to the Firm
Kingsview Partners is proud to welcome Kris Kumlien, CEPA®, to the firm.
Kris operates his advisory practice from Bozeman, Montana, serving clients, families, and business owners throughout the Gallatin Valley and surrounding communities. A Bozeman native, Kris brings more than a decade of industry experience, a strong foundation in finance and economics, and a client-centered approach shaped by both financial planning and real-world business ownership.
He earned two bachelor’s degrees, in finance and economics, from Montana State University, graduating with highest honors in 2006. After college, Kris was recruited for a career in investment banking before returning home to help restore his family’s former business, Montana Troutfitters. After helping lead a successful turnaround and eventual sale of the business, he joined Edward Jones in 2012 and began building an advisory practice rooted in long-term relationships and personal service.
For Kris, financial advice is most valuable when it helps people make better decisions about the lives they are already working hard to build. His process begins with understanding where clients are financially, where they want to go, and which risks or blind spots may need attention along the way.
“I have always believed this work is about stewardship,” said Kris Kumlien. “Clients trust us with the financial pieces of their lives that often connect to family, work, legacy, and independence. My role is to help them make thoughtful decisions and feel supported as life changes.”
Kris also brings a specialized perspective to business owners as a Certified Exit Planning Advisor® professional. His own experience helping turn around and sell a family business gives him firsthand insight into the complexity of business transitions, including timing, valuation, family priorities, and the financial planning that follows a sale.
“Kris brings the kind of grounded perspective that clients can feel right away,” said Sean McGillivray, Chief Operating Officer & President of Asset Management at Kingsview Partners. “He understands business owners because he has lived that experience, and he understands his community because he has spent his life investing in it. We are thrilled to welcome him to Kingsview.”
Outside of work, Kris and his wife, Andrea, are raising four children in Bozeman. He enjoys fly fishing, hiking, hunting, camping, traveling, photography, and serving on local community boards. His connection to Montana remains central to both his personal life and his work with clients.
Kris Kumlien serves clients from Kingsview’s Bozeman office and can be reached directly by calling (406) 389-9900 or through the Kingsview website.

Shawn operates his practice from the Metropolitan Nashville area and brings 28 years of industry experience to Kingsview. Advisor Serving Clients from Mecosta, Michigan
Kingsview Partners is proud to welcome Partner and Wealth Manager Andrew J. Butler, CFP®, who operates his advisory practice from Mecosta, Michigan. AJ brings more than two decades of financial advisory experience to his work, along with a service-driven mindset shaped by his years as an officer and aviator in the United States Marine Corps.
AJ began his career as a financial advisor in 2004 after serving more than 11 years in the military, where he flew AH-1W attack helicopters and rose to the rank of Major. His transition into wealth management came from a desire to continue serving something greater than himself — this time by helping individuals, families, and business owners pursue the financial future they envision. That background continues to influence his approach today, bringing discipline, commitment, and a steady hand to every client relationship.
As a Certified Financial Planner (CFP®), AJ builds personalized financial strategies designed around each client’s goals, circumstances, and priorities. He works with a broad range of clients, including multigenerational families, retirees, and small business owners, helping them navigate areas such as retirement planning, education funding, wealth transfer, business succession, asset growth, and tax-aware planning. He also believes the best outcomes come from a coordinated effort, which is why he regularly collaborates with clients’ CPAs, attorneys, and other trusted professionals to help keep every part of the plan aligned.
“I chose this profession after serving in the military because I wanted to keep serving something greater than myself,” AJ says. “Helping clients achieve hopes and dreams they once thought were out of reach is what makes this work so fulfilling.”
Outside the office, AJ lives in Mecosta with his wife, Jennifer, and together they have two children, Canyon and Grace. He enjoys spending time with family, fly fishing, golfing, snowboarding, traveling, woodworking, and building projects around the home. He has also remained active in his community through leadership and volunteer roles with organizations including Spectrum Health, St. Michael’s Church, and Habitat for Humanity.
“AJ brings a service-first mindset and a deeply personal commitment to the client experience,” says Kingsview COO & President of Asset Management, Sean McGillivray. “His leadership and military experience gives him a leg up when it comes to helping clients navigate important financial decisions. We’re very pleased to have him on the team.”

Advisor Serving Clients from Clare, Michigan
Kingsview Partners is proud to welcome Partner and Wealth Manager Justin Cole, CFP®, who serves clients from Clare, Michigan. Since entering the industry in 2012, Justin has built his career around a simple idea: strong financial planning starts with trust, grows through relationships, and works best when it stays closely tied to a client’s real life.
Originally from Greenville, Michigan, Justin earned his bachelor’s degree from Aquinas College in Grand Rapids. Before building his practice, his path included service in the United States Marine Corps and time working in his family’s restaurant. Those experiences helped shape the way he works today — with discipline, humility, and an appreciation for what it takes to build something meaningful over time.
As a Certified Financial Planner (CFP®), Justin works with individuals, families, and business owners to bring greater structure and confidence to their financial lives. He enjoys helping clients connect their resources to the goals that matter most to them, whether that means supporting their family, growing a business, preparing for retirement, or simply creating more clarity around the road ahead.
For Justin, the most rewarding part of the work is the relationship itself. Over the years, many clients have become more like extended family. He values the moments when a plan begins to click — when uncertainty gives way to confidence and a client can move forward with a stronger sense of peace.
“I’ve always believed the best work happens when you’re helping others succeed,” Justin says. “Financial planning gives me the opportunity to build lasting relationships while helping clients align their money with their goals and values.”
That perspective carries into the way he leads his practice. Justin brings the mindset of a coach to his work: stay clear, stay disciplined, keep working toward long-term growth. As a business owner himself, he understands the competing demands clients face every day, and he aims to be the kind of advisor who brings steadiness, honesty, and practical guidance to the table.
Outside of the practice, Justin and his wife, Courtney, live in Clare, Michigan, where they’re raising their four boys: Jayden, Cannon, Jordan, and Cruz. Faith and Christian values are central to Justin’s family and continue to shape the way he approaches life, relationships, and service. He also coaches high school football, an experience that continues to shape his view of leadership, growth, and investing in people over time. With the rest of his free time, him and his family’s lives revolve around sports, the outdoors, and staying active together.
“Justin has built his practice around something that matters deeply to Kingsview: earning trust through steady guidance, real relationships, and a clear sense of purpose,” says Sean McGillivray, COO & President of Asset Management at Kingsview. “He brings a thoughtful, service-driven approach to his clients, and we’re proud to welcome him to the firm.”
Justin Cole serves clients from Kingsview’s Clare, Michigan, office and can be reached through the Kingsview website or by contacting the office directly at (989) 888-0111.
